Mayumi Gwatkin - Ballet
Mayumi started her ballet lessons at an early age with a local ballet school in Japan. She continued her studies at the Lichine Ballet with Tatiana Riabouchinska Lichine, one of the three "Baby Ballerinas" of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, enlisted by George Balanchine. She received coaching and guidance from Marat Daukayev (former Kirov Ballet principal and Artistic Director of the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C., Yuri Grigoriev (the former Moscow Classical Ballet principal and Master Teacher of the Bolshoi Academy), Alexander Greschenko (former Bolshoi Ballet soloist), and Vitaly Artiushkin and Alla Khaniashvili-Artiushkina (former Bolshoi Ballet principals). She was asked to join a regional company in New York after audition, and joined their tour in Pennsylvania. She has a B.A. in Economics from UCLA, and worked in Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo, among other locations in the United States.
